Financially successful burglars

       One major feature professional burglars have is integrity or ambition. Successful burglars surround us and although it seems that the majority are amateurs.Professional burglars are sneaks and less commonly caught so we don’t even realise it has been don’t or it’s too late to catch them.

      Criminals may prey on commercial property rather than private homes because the consequences are less severe. The criminal will be served less time in prison if they break into a commercial property the reason for the less sever consequence is that the burglar is not invading someone’s home. Home is where they are supposed to be safe and unwelcome strangers in a home is more frightening then burglary of a business. The steps for burglarys in commercial property is:

·         scoping out business before hand

·         planning

·         collecting inside information

·         lots of time put into the burglary

·         finding what you want

         Some burglars will strike the same place multiple times because there may be weak spots that the burglar knows of from previous experiences. The most common methods for burglars are breaking windows, kicking in doors or opening unlocked doors. They will most likely avoid homes with guard dogs and alarm systems due to the higher risk of being caught.

Where do burglars learn their tricks from you may ask?

Well there are a number of sources. They learn from more experienced burglars, they may have taught themselves, they may have been adopted by a gang or group (kind of like the series leverage) and asked to do such, or it may even be kind of a family business type deal.

 
Neal Shover studied the careers of professional burglars and uncovered the existence of a particularly successful type of burglar.

 "It is suggested that burglary continues to be more like the social organization of professional theft, as this was presented by Sutherland, than check forgery and armed robbery, as these have been depicted in recent literature. Some possible reasons for this are presented. Finally, it is suggested that the social organization of burglary can be expected to continue to change as a result of macro level changes in the economy and in the nature of security forces"

Autotheft

Fort McMurray has the highest rate of auto theft in Canada.

One of the main reason people steal cars is for money. When stealing a car you can strip it for it’s parts and sell them for more money than you could on selling the car whole. Cars can also be tracked so striping a car and selling the parts is and easier dollar. Another reason why people steal cars is for a joyride and if that’s the case there are 3 possible ways you’ll find your car:

1.Deserted on a road or parking lot.

2.On fire burning away any evidence.

3.Drowning in a lake washing away its existence.

BUT if your very lucky number one will be how you find yours.

There are many ways of which to protect your cars from auto theft and the # One protection is LOCK YOUR CAR the number of people who don’t lock their vehicles is outrageous! Park in your driveway that has good lighting or in your garage. Install alarm systems, never leave it running unattended and as ridiculous as it sounds put stickers on your car for easy identification.

Hypermasculinity

Hypermasculinity ~ having qualities traditionally ascribed to men, as strength and boldness.

Hypermasculinity can be learned from a number of different sources. I think that most men learn it from TV. Seeing shows and various movies that show men have the more of a masculine role or "wear the pants" has changed the way they behave around others especially women. Social media is also a main way of showing that men are to be treated as if they were the king of the castle, I mean don’t get me wrong men aren’t the only ones that can act hypermasculine because women tend to be as well. Generally men learn to act hypermasculine by watching their fathers. Most older men joke about being "the man" and so the children learn that that’s the way the rest of the world behaves. This is not a good lesson because it can create anomie problems for young men.

Men also learn to be more masculine because people typically believe that the man is supposed to support his family and the wife is to cook and clean the home. So men have to work full time and be the more masculine one in the family. Often hypermasculinity can have a role in sexual assault because men think they are entitled to whatever and whomever they want. This has been a huge factor in sexual assault and some of those assaults are'nt sexually motivated but are to obtain power. Hypermasculinity a way to show power and rank among others.

 

Violent Crime & BC

I believe that violent crimes have been decreasing since 1998 I believe that is has to do with three things. Although in about 2000 it seemed to rise back up quite a bit.here are my 3 theory’s:

1-technology
2-population/government
3-lifestyle

Technology- Violent crime is decreasing partly because its harder to commit a violent crime and not get caught due to recent DNA tests that can link people to crime scenes. Our technology is getting bigger and stronger and this makes it harder for people to hide or disappear. Although criminals use technology to their benefit we can use it just as well to prevent them. We use devices such as surveillance to monitor people, GPS to track people, but scientific technology is by far the most advanced and scares people out of committing crime.

Population/government- Communities are changing, our safe neighbourhoods are a way of life and although we do have many bad neighbourhoods we are still more generally safe than we were a few decades ago. To be completely honest our government isn’t going to stand by and watch our crime rates slide past without doing something to stop it. Canada is known for being a free country and other than a few reasonable laws we are pretty free. After all we have Fundamental freedoms, Democratic rights, Mobility rights, Legal rights, Equality rights, Language rights, Minority language education rights-

lifestyle- Statistics show that British Columbia has the highest amount of high crime cities. Canada’s most dangerous city is Prince George with a population of 73,590. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2011/12/14/bc-prince-george-crime-capital.html Violent crime also comes from the environments people grow up in or live in, for instance if someone had abusive parents they may grow up to be abusive people. If someone was sexually abused or assaulted they may grow up be to violent because of mental confusion and anger. There are tons of reasons why people become violent and I believe that their lifestyle and home life has one of the biggest impacts.

People are led to believe that crime is increasing but that’s only because they hear about these crimes on the news which largely magnify them and exaggerate them.

Long Term

There are so many factors in victimization. People who have been a victim of a crim can become re-victimized, for instance Law and Order-SVU episode"closure" the victims name is Harper. She is raped by a man and the police make her describe everything that happened then she has to explain it again to the detectives. They dont catch her rapist but 6 months later when they think they have, they find out she has moved changed her whole look and significant other. She then refuses to help them because she doesnt want to remember the past. She even wears running shoes to bed because she still has the "long term" effects chasing her. In real life there was a 17 year old girl who killed her sister which would also be considered to have long term effects on the entire family.

Short Term

There is also an effect on people called short term, a crime that doesnt harm someone for a continuous cycle. There are a few short term type of crimes but long term is the more common. Short term effects can be caused by crimes such as small theft, smuggling, and a few others. In the link below is a sort of short term case. Victims of smugglers would only be short term in my mind.

My theory on crime is that the people who commit it are doing it for many reasons. Criminals have many reasons for doing crime that are unexcusable, for instance mental illness, for attention, for entertainment, for a rush, for money, and many more. I personally am interested in Social Structure Theories: People commit crimes because of where they live and the conditions they are living with like poverty and other influences. I also believe that in social disorganization, strain, and cultural deviance theories are part of it. Like Durkheim said because of anomie which is surprisingly frequent. A breakdown in social structure would be crimes such as gang related offences. There are many underground gangs that we dont even aknowledge and they are ripping apart our society its a good thing we have such strict laws on fire arms. One of the big issues I think we are faced with is the hells angles who are merely just a middle man they are solicited drugs from the higher gangs therefore they sell to smaller gangs who sell to people on the street making themselves almost untouchable. gand violence is a big issue more than we take into account. If you have seen the movie 21 jump street you know what i mean even though im sure theyre not as comical as that movie. For example,
